Browse Sequence

Applies to HTML Viewer, IE Browser publications.

If you create ebooks or presentations, you may want your readers to browse pages in a specific order.

See an online screencast (video tutorial) about how to define a Browse Sequence

HTML Executable lets you configure the behavior of the Back & Forward buttons & menus thanks to two modes: History & Browse Sequence.

  • The History mode is the standard one: the Back & Forward buttons work like in web browsers and allow users to come back to pages they have visited.

  • The Browse Sequence mode associates the Back & Forward buttons to a browse sequence: HTML pages are displayed in a specific order (there is no need to click on hyperlinks to navigate through pages) of your choice.

To use this mode, you must have created a Table of Contents. However it is not mandatory to show the latter: you can keep its Visible property to False, thus the TOC will actually never appear to users.

The page sequence is automatically defined by their order of appearance in the Table of Contents:

On this screenshot, the "Chapter 1" HTML page will be displayed in first. If the user clicks Next, the publication will show the Chapter 2, etc...

Notes:

  • You can of course have a visible Table of Contents and a Browse Sequence together.

  • It is highly recommended that the index page of your publication belongs to the sequence (not necessarily in the first position).

  • The Back & Forward buttons (and menus) are automatically disabled when the first & last pages in the sequence are displayed.
