System requirements and limitations for publications Minimal configuration: note that this list may change in the future.- Microsoft Windows® ME, 2000, XP, 2003 Server, or higher. Windows 95 and 98 are no more officially supported, although publications can work on them.
- Intel Pentium II.
- 128 MB RAM (Recommended: 256 MB RAM or greater).
- For IE browser publications on old Windows versions: Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0+, 5.x, 6.x or 7.x installed at least, not necessarily set as the default web browser.
- For Windows 95 users:
- you must have the COMCTL32.DLL update version 4.72 or higher.
- Microsoft Tahoma and Verdana fonts.
Size limitation:
HTML Executable supports creating publication .exe files up to 2 GB (~2048 MB). Please note that it is always better to split very large publications into a group of smaller ones. If your publication contains hundreds of files, it will take more time to display pages. Notes about IE Browser and HTML Viewer publications- ASP, PHP, JSP and ASPX pages which are designed to run on a server cannot work properly in publications. They will be treated as normal web pages.
- Some ActiveX plug-ins may not work properly, depending on how they were designed. Try to use the Special Extensions feature when you experiment problems with them.
- Java applets may not always work (it actually depends on the complexity of your Java applet). Normally they should not work at all (due to how MSIE handles Java applets), but HTML Executable uses a trick so publications can try to load and display them. It depends on which Java Virtual Machine you have so they are not officially supported.
- HTML Viewer publications cannot connect directly to a server through a HTTP protocol. You need to use an IE browser publication instead if you want to actually put "online" pages in your publication (some kind of "what's new" pages).
- Direct http links in Flash movies displayed in HTML Viewer publications are not supported: the external browser will be started. To avoid this, use FSCommand commands and the OnFlashFSCom HEScript event.
- PDF files can be displayed only if the free "Adobe Reader" product is installed (please visit the Adobe site at http://www.adobe.com). HTML Viewer publications can handle PDF files correctly only if your users have a recent version of the Adobe Reader product (version 6 or higher).
- Each publication stores its settings on the user's computer in a unique "publication" folder located at:
C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\Roaming\HTML Executable\UserPublication\[Publication GUID]\ on Windows Vista C:\Documents and Settings\[User name]\Application Data\HTML Executable\UserPublication\[Publication GUID]\ on Windows 2000, NT, XP, and: C:\Windows\Profiles\[User name]\Application Data\HTML Executable\UserPublication\[Publication GUID]\ on Windows W9X, WME. If you do not want your publication to leave files, you'll need to add a reference to this folder for the uninstaller, so the latter will remove the contents inside this folder.
